Early Arrival

All students and J-1 scholars coming to the US to study on an I-20 or DS-2019 can enter the United States up to 30 days before their start date for their program listed on these documents.  We strongly recommend that students use this early arrival option to not only have enough time to overcome jet lag, but finalize their housing arrangements.

Temporary Housing

Davis has a number of temporary housing resources, including hotels, to accomodate students and scholars who are looking for housing or just here for a short-term assignment.

Davis Short-Term/Temporary Housing Options:

UC Davis Housing

For students, the best place to start is the Student Housing office (530-752-2033 or studenthousing@ucdavis.edu). First-year undergraduates have priority for the on-campus residence halls. Student families with children have first priority in family apartments. Space is limited and assigned in the order that applications are received. For more information, review the Guide to On-Campus Housing (PDF | Webpage).

  • UC Davis Tri-Coops: An on-campus student housing association providing affordable, cooperative housing. Tri-Coops offers quarter-to-quarter living, as well as a very unique experience for people to get involved in a community.

For scholars, there are three apartments near campus available for rent.  These apartments may be rented for a maximum of three consecutive months during the academic year. To receive more information about availability and cost, please contact the Conference and Event Services office several months ahead of your pending visit — Phone: (530) 752-2675, Fax: (530) 752-5791 or email events@ucdavis.edu.

Off-Campus Housing Resources

SISS has a Weekly E-mail Bulletin that includes information about available housing in the Davis area. SISS does not endorse the below web sites, but many International Students and Scholars have found them useful for finding off-campus housing. Please also review the Legal Resources guide, which includes information about Tenant Rights/Responsibilities and Legal Agreements.
